CAS is currently seeking a Product Owner.  This position will be located in our Columbus, OH headquarters.


The role of Product Owner is primary business representative to the software development teams that build CAS’s products, such as CAS SciFinder-n.  Under the guidance of a Product Manager, this person will understand customer needs, write requirements to reflect these needs, and work with a team to create what we envision.  It’s a fast-paced role that requires exceptional communication and collaboration skills, especially about complex and technical topics.

  • Education - Bachelors’ degree or higher in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, other related scientific field, computer science, or business.
  • Experience – 0-2 years of experience in business analysis, product ownership, requirements analysis, computer programming or other related roles. Relevant project or internship experience will be considered.   
  • Leadership – Demonstrated ability to lead projects and drive successful outcomes.
  • Communication – Strong formal and informal communication, both written and verbal. Communicates with colleagues in concise, compelling, empathetic and persuasive ways. Demonstrated effectively translating complex information.
  • Partnering – Strong collaboration, partnership and teamwork skills.
  • Analysis and Modeling - Demonstrated experience effectively using research and data to inform complex decisions.
  • Agile Product Development – Working knowledge of the agile software development process. Able to collaborate across teams to manage development of moderately complex products. Uses effective communication and active listening skills to identify and articulate product requirements, able to leverage subject matter expertise across teams to deliver timely results. Seeks support and escalates as needed.


  • Acts as the primary business representative for one or more software development teams.  Documents and communicates clear and measurable product requirements for teams, and supports the teams as they implement new product features.  Resolves questions and decisions about feature scope, design and requirements in a timely manner. 
  • Evaluates and approves features implemented by software development teams to ensure they meet business requirements. 
  • Maintains a prioritized, well-groomed backlog of epics and stories for one or more software development teams.
  • Collaborates with product, technical, and user experience leadership to ensure that features meet the needs of customers and the business, are clearly scoped, and are aligned with technical and UX design patterns.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and partners, including scientific content experts and technical experts, in the design and development of product features. 
  • Investigates and understands customer needs.  Participates in customer research to ensure that features will meet the needs of customers.  Evaluates the success of features and identifies changes that may be needed.  Leverages product usage and other data to understand and solve customer challenges.
