The Senior Director, Data Analytics & Insights is the leader of the DAI Organization at CAS and a key member of the CAS leadership team.   The leader will mature and expand the role of DAI as a world class shared service supporting growth and operational initiatives across CAS. 


Position accountabilities include:


  • Advance Data, Analytics & Insights competencies by integrating new technologies and processes
  • Continue DAI organizational growth through recruiting, skill development and education
  • Grow DAI brand internally and externally with targeted activities including presentations, publications, and thought leadership
  • Collaborate as a shared resource to partners across CAS to develop creative new DAI solutions that drive material value for CAS and our customers
  • Work with CAS executives/departments to understand complex business challenges, develop hypothesis, develop analytical solutions, and communicate with partners across the business to drive results and advance our strategic goals
  • Partner with Product Management and Technology to improve the sophistication of CAS solutions, including ongoing efforts to develop/improve algorithms that enhance search and relevance capabilities
  • Partner with Content & Technology to develop machine learning algorithms to support automated curation and support the Phoenix transformation initiative
  • Partner with Sales & Marketing to develop segmentation, personalization and propensity models, drive deeper customer understanding, and surface other actionable insights to increase customer engagement
  • Support CAS thought leadership initiatives with data wrangling, data science and visualizations that deliver value
  • Partner with Services teams to develop and implement high value solutions that deliver against identified customer opportunities
  • Enable enhanced business decision making for CAS leadership through ongoing improvement around business data and intelligence platforms/dashboards
  • Provide data governance support across the enterprise, with continued enhancement to operating processes/tools for domains already under governance and expand domains to support business needs
  • Represent the organization externally through communications and participation in industry-related, data, science, and technology, meetings and discussions.



Skills/Experience/Education Required


  • Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative/statistical discipline
  • A minimum 15 years of relevant work experience in data analytics within global enterprises, ideally in customer communities served by CAS
  • Proven leadership of successful and scaled shared service organization within global enterprise, with demonstrated skills including conflict resolution, consensus building, team building and effective decision making
  • Consultative nature, with proven track record of using data to provide actionable business results
  • Demonstrated experience being the ‘public face’ of a technical function, driving engagement around complex scientific and analytic topics
  • Polished written and oral communication skills, with ability to present and clearly explain data to non-technical executive audiences
  • Deep experience in commercial settings leveraging data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning to create predictive models that drive business results
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a shared service in a matrix organization
  • Strong knowledge in data management best practices and current leading developments in the data analytics field
  • Knowledge of data structures, systems, and tools related to data management
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, persistence and resilience; comfort with and ability to thrive on and drive change while navigating ambiguity


Skills/Experience/Education Preferred


  • Deep knowledge of the scientific information industry, including basic research and peer reviewed journals
  • Deep knowledge of the US patent process and applications of patent data
  • Experience working in international markets and communicating across the globe
  • Familiarity with business intelligence, metrics definitions, and reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with information security standards.
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology or related scientific field
