CAS is currently seeking an Accounts Payable & Purchasing Manager. This position will be located in our Columbus, OH headquarters.


Position Summary

The Accounting Manager reports to the Finance Director. This position has the responsibility to direct and manage both exempt and non-exempt staff and includes overseeing the execution and recording of financial transactions; safeguarding of financial assets; analysis, reconciliation and reporting of financial information; treasury functions such as banking and cash flow duties; representing CAS to customers, vendors, government officials and other outside parties; preparation of financial forecasts and budgets; compliance with various laws and standard accounting practices; completing transaction reviews to improve processes and/or strengthen internal controls; and coordinating financial systems and various projects to install and/or upgrade those systems and the evaluation of business proposals.


Along with the rest of Finance management, Accounting Managers are responsible for helping ensure CAS meets or exceeds all financial performance targets, assist in facilitating adherence to outside auditing internal control requirements and provide assistance so that CAS experiences a clean financial audit.  Accounting Managers work with staff from all divisions, so very strong interpersonal communications skills and working well within a team environment are essential elements for this position.



Position Accountabilities

  1. Responsible for oversight of the Accounts Payable department activities such as routine processing and disbursing payments to vendors, ensuring payments are completed accurately and on time.
  2. Responsible for the Procurement department activities, including development, monitoring and maintaining procurement strategies and managing vendor relations.
  3. Responsible for the Travel function by directing, administering and monitoring travel policies, guidelines and spend for CAS.  Work with CAS’ travel management company to manage the CAS corporate travel program.   Provide direct oversight and guidance of the travel expense reporting system for CAS staff and work with DC office to jointly coordinate the system.
  4. Responsible for the execution and recording of financial transactions initiated through the Accounts Payable, Procurement and Travel functions.
  5. Oversees the reconciliation and control of financial records.  Safeguards the financial assets of CAS and maintains proper control framework and processes to deter fraudulent activities and provide support in resolving legal and financial questions.
  6. Supervises the timely summarization and reporting of financial information in a clear and representative manner to both internal and external audiences, in compliance with all applicable financial accounting standards and government regulations.  Represents the financial interests of CAS when dealing with government agencies, auditors and vendors.
  7. Coordinates the identification, evaluation, selection, development and maintenance of appropriate business software needed to support the business goals of the organization, as well as internal and external reporting requirements.  Schedules, controls and monitors Business Systems to meet CAS current needs and long-range plans; participate in the identification and solutions of problems encountered in maintaining and supporting the online accounting business systems.
  8. Maintains and expands an in-depth technical and managerial knowledge to lead and make decisions for the department.
  9. Interviews, selects, trains, develops and motivates exempt and non-exempt staff to assist CAS in achieving organizational goals and objectives. Assists staff in their career planning efforts.
  10. Provides prompt, clear and professional correspondence to inquiries from both internal staff/customers and external customers.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major emphasis in Business (Accounting or Finance) required
  • 7 or more years of direct accounts payable/purchasing experience
  • PeopleSoft experience required; Chrome River and Basware experience a plus
  • Prior project management or project leadership/implementation experience; Team building and/or prior management experience preferred
  • A demonstrated ability to lead (a collaborative leadership capability) and attributes of a change champion
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting agreed-upon deadlines
  • An aptitude for exceeding customer expectations demonstrated by excellent interpersonal communications skills and an ability to effectively interact with staff and management.
  • Ability to work independently in an Accounting environment
  • Detail oriented with a proactive focus on accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to clearly articulate results and findings of analyses
  • Ability to work with different audiences and levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications (particularly Excel and Word)
