CAS is currently seeking a Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician.  This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Division and Department Overview

Facilities Operations supports multiple initiatives at CAS.  The staff in this division contributes to the success of the CAS organization by providing and maintaining a safe, functional, environmentally conscious workplace, which includes three buildings, a state of the art 24/7 data center, and 55 acres of campus.  The team executes capital improvement, cost reduction and operating efficiency projects.  The division also supports the management of internal office services inclusive of printing, mail and distribution services for the various divisional products and services.

 

Position Summary

Perform grounds, landscaping and maintenance operations to maintain the CAS grounds, parking lots, roads, lawns, landscaping and signage as assigned.  Support all outdoor events on the CAS grounds as assigned.  Perform snow removal operations.

 

Position Accountabilities

  1. Maintains the 55 cultivated-acre CAS grounds and roadways, sidewalks and parking areas for vehicles and automatic underground irrigation system and pumping station. 
  2. Transplants, removes and plants flowers, trees and bushes.  Applies mulch to landscaped areas.  Waters grass, flowers, shrubs and bushes as necessary. 
  3. Under supervision of licensee, applies fertilizer, plant food, and weed killers as appropriate.
  4. Provides snow removal services for all parking areas and sidewalks including being on-call 24/7 for snow removal through the winter months.  Utilizes shovels, snow blowers, tractors and trucks for snow removal.  Applies salt, calcium and sand to various areas to melt ice and provide safer conditions for staff and visitors.
  5. Maintains major equipment used in the execution of this job including; pickup trucks, compact tractor, riding mowers, zero turn mower, utility vehicles, snow removal equipment and other hand held equipment.  Troubleshoots problems as they arise and perform preventive maintenance and repairs to keep equipment operating effectively.
  6. Carries out outdoor activities associated with charitable special events and business related events/meetings held on the CAS Campus, including setup and tear down.
  7. Maintains supply inventories and order materials as needed.  Maintain shop and hand tools.
  8. Assists with the performance of preventative maintenance tasks and repairs on building systems.  Examples include: air filter changes, greasing of fan and pump motors, changing belts on pulleys, cleaning of air dampers and screens, cleaning of cooling tower system, and cleaning water filter screens.
  9. Assists with the implementation of office relocation and staff move/add/change requests involving modular wall and office furniture systems.  Performs content moves for customers; follow-up to ensure office environment concerns are met.  Completes work order requests for the day-to-day furniture set-ups and repairs.
  10. Assists with set-ups and provides support for CAS meetings, corporate functions, and all special events.
  11. Maintains cleanliness and order of all mechanical and storage areas, as assigned.
  12. Possess small-motor skills and coordination in order to operate workbench tools, vehicles, and small power tools.
  13. “Essential” staff position critical to the day-to-day operation of the organization during weather, power or building related emergency situations.

 

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

  • 2 or more years of direct landscaping and/or facilities experience.
  • Pesticide certification or license preferred.
  • Certification for Forklift Operator.
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of the position, the worker may exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects such as; office furniture, wall-partitioning, 55 gallon drums of liquids, and other containers of similar weight and bulk.  The worker stands upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time; moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for moderate distances or moving from one work site to another.  The duties require manual dexterity to hold, control and operate tools machinery, and/or vehicles with hands and fingers.  The worker frequently reaches with hands and arms and occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature.  The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions (weather and temperature) where exposure lasts for more than one hour.  The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, loud noises, oils and/or chemicals.
