CAS is currently seeking a Content Acquisition Scientist. This position will be located in our Columbus, OH headquarters.

 

Position Summary

The Content Acquisition Scientist cultivates relationships with publishers, patent offices, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of source material to help build world-class databases of chemical, biological and related scientific data.  They monitor, review, catalog, analyze changes and impacts, and identify new sources of literature from around the world in various languages for inclusion in CAS Solutions. 

 

Position Accountabilities

Actively identifies and/or catalog new sources of scientific material, including but not limited to patents, journals and other serial publications, technical reports, conference proceedings, dissertations, and books.  Activities of the Content Acquisition Scientist include but limited to:

  • Catalog bibliographic information for CAS Solutions in accordance with CAS standards
  • Actively acquires receipt of newly identified content in best format available and in accordance with CAS guidelines
  • Acquire content (publisher/patent office/supplier) and ensures CAS has rights to use content in database building as well as in accordance with terms defined in license agreements
  • Complete all tasks within pre-determined time frames, supporting the goal of providing CAS customers access to published scientific literature in a timely manner
  • Collaborate through training and project work
  • Learn and deploy quality standards to all work and assess the quality of CAS databases
  • Assist with projects that affect production and CAS database building

 

Minimum Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in library science, business analysis, information studies or related studies.
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and time-critical environment 
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. 
  • Solutions focused, continuous improvement and growth mindset. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.  Aptitude and interest for learning and using various web-based and/or proprietary computer applications including, but not limited to video conferencing, instant messaging, and document sharing software. 
  • Ability to work with different audiences and levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications (particularly Excel and Word)
