CAS is currently seeking an Organic Chemistry/Polymer Scientist. This position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.


The successful candidate will be contributing to two or all of the following areas:

  • Resolve indexing problems for documents in a wide range of areas including but not limiting to polymers, dyes, oils, or coating materials. Make appropriate registrations and add lab codes / trade names / trivial names to CAS Registry to maintain the comprehensiveness and high quality of CAS databases.
  • Assign CAS Index Names to chemical compounds and develop controlled vocabularies for specialized classes of chemical substances
  • Support other functions and initiatives in the Authority Database Operations



  • A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. An advanced degree or an equivalent working experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge or working experiences in polymers, dyes, or a wide range of chemical substances
  • A self-driven person who is open-minded and motivated to expand skills and domain knowledge
  • Good reading comprehension and scientific writing skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated skill in handling multiple tasks with varying urgencies and priorities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
