CAS is currently seeking an Information Scientist. This position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.

 

The successful candidate will be contributing to three or all of the following areas:

  • Contribute to thesaurus/ontology building with emphasis on the life science areas related to drug discovery
  • Resolve indexing problems for documents in the life science-related areas to maintain the comprehensiveness and high quality of CAS databases.  Make appropriate controlled vocabularies and add registrations of important substances, including drugs, to CAS Registry.
  • Assign CAS Index Names to biosequences.
  • Support new initiatives in the Authority Database Operations and Content Operations

 

Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, biotechnology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, or a related field in life science.
  • Good knowledge or working experiences in proteins, sequences, and/or ontology development
  • A self-driven person who is open-minded and motivated to expand skills and domain knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good reading comprehension and scientific writing skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated skill in handling multiple tasks with varying urgencies and priorities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
