CAS is currently seeking an Organic Chemist. This position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.

Position Summary

The organic chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem solving capabilities, and relevant language skills to help build CAS’s world-class collection of chemical information data. They leverage their education and specialized training to curate high-quality research data from patents from 64 patent offices, thousands of journals, technical reports, books, conference proceedings and dissertations published in 180 countries and in more than 50 languages. The role may include indexing substance and reaction data found in patents, journals, and other chemistry-related literatures. The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.

 

Specific Responsibilities

The organic chemist builds the CAS collections by actively analyzing scientific documents for chemical information data. They utilize CAS indexing policies and their ability to understand scientific documents both in the area of their scientific expertise and across a diversity of scientific domains. Using their technical knowledge and applicable language skills they ensure that the chemical information data is appropriately and accurately represented.

 

Requirements

  • An advanced degree in Synthetic/Natural Products/Organometallic/Inorganic/Coordination Chemistry or related scientific field. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills.
  • Ability to learn policies, work habits, insights, and tool usage from trainers to foster quality and productivity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with computers at a basic level. Familiarity with video conferencing, instant messaging, email, calendar scheduling, word processing, spreadsheets, and document sharing software.
  • Ability to communicate and share knowledge with peers with diverse backgrounds.
