CAS is currently seeking a Search & Relevance Product Manager. 

 

This position is preferably located in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.  But we’re open to a remote position given the right fit.

 

This product manager will own the Search & Relevance engines powering many of our customer facing products in the scientific R&D and IP spaces.  He/she must combine technical expertise with customer focus in order to create best-in-class search experiences for our end users.

 

Duties:

  • Assess and understand user needs working with other Product Managers/Owners, User Research and SMEs for the various CAS product/personas supported with search capabilities.
  • Develop search and relevance research roadmaps focused on continued enhancement of existing search products delivering improved customer experiences.
  • Establish metrics that monitor product success and user satisfaction
  • Collaboratively work with cross-divisional partners to maintain successful research and development efforts and support migration of new search features into products.
  • Own development of search requirements working with the product owner for Search experience
  • Establish enterprise guidelines for search and relevance to help enable cross product understanding for users of multiple CAS products and serve as foundation for any new search product initiative.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor search and relevance capabilities

 

Experience/Technical Knowledge

  • Experience with and understanding of metrics, statistics, A/B testing methods, machine learning, as well as the technical aspects of search: indexes, query understanding, query rewrites, suggestions, spell corrections, faceting.
  • Solid understanding of search architectures, information retrieval, learning to rank concepts and personalization.
  • Experience with search technologies including SOLR, ElasticSearch and Lucene
  • Experience with structured data/content
  • Experience with big data / machine learning tools and frameworks, such as Python, Tensorflow, Keras, Spark, Hadoop or MapReduce
  • Proficient at leveraging data sets to analyze and improve user experience.
  • Experience optimizing search ranking and relevance functions in a related industry.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM fields, Advanced degree in a scientific, technical discipline and/or MBA strongly preferred
  • +5 years of experience in product management, product ownership, requirements analysis, management or other related roles
  • +5 years of experience with search products and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize quickly and effectively both in individual work and in the assessment of business requirements
  • Communication – Strong formal and informal communication. Can create compelling communication materials to support the logic behind recommendations and decisions. Communicates with colleagues in concise, compelling, empathetic and persuasive ways. Able to effectively interact with customers, address their questions and concerns, and leverage active listening skills to assess product opportunities and risks. Able to manage negotiations with limited supervision or instruction.
  • Leadership – Able to effectively lead projects and drive successful outcomes. Strong management skills leading large cross-functional initiatives. Effectively uses influence to lead projects, able to influence the performance of others through effective collaboration.
  • Analysis and Modeling - Demonstrated experience effectively using research and data to drive complex decisions, ability to establish relevant metrics with little direction.  Firm understanding of ROI and ability to apply as a decision-making tool.
  • Understands Business Drivers, Context and Key Issues - Has a good working and background understanding of business drivers and key issues, sees actions in organizational context. Able to answer, “So What? What’s Next?” questions to deeply understand complex issues and define strategic options.
  • Agile Product Development – Able to collaborate across teams to manage development of moderately complex products. Uses effective communication and active listening skills to identify and articulate product requirements, able to leverage subject matter expertise across teams to deliver timely results. Seeks support and escalates as needed.
