CAS is currently seeking a Scientific Content Engineer. This position will be based in our headquarters in Columbus, OH.

As an integral part of the Content Operations team, you will leverage your education and specialized training to curate high-quality research data from patent and journal literatures to build the most current and complete digital environment for scientific insight and discovery, benefitting the whole scientific community. Position Summary and Specific Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, computer science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of CAS databases and database building processes
  • Proficiency with Unix, Python/Perl, XML schemas, Microsoft Office suite and collaboration software (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Experience with creating web-based interfaces is a nice-to-have.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Java nice to have.
  • Strong learning agility and willingness to learn new programming languages (particularly Java and Python). Ability to learn and apply complex scientific concepts, policies, and technology tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet department and division objectives
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
  • Flexibility and a strong desire to learn new tasks.

Duties:

  • As part of the Global Sourcing and Partnerships group, facilitate and coordinate database building projects with global partners.
  • Evaluate, profile, analyze, and transform data it for inclusion in CAS products and services. Leverage Perl and Python along with strong Excel skills to integrate data into CAS systems, drive workflows, perform data transformations, ensure data consistency, and perform quality assurance functions
  • Collaborate with divisional teams to implement business solutions, participates in evaluation of new technology, content, policy, and processes.
  • Communicate effectively with project contributors and stakeholders
  • Design and implement production workflow processes and systems
  • Utilize teamwork and a collaborative attitude to work with teammates to build, test, and productionize systems with an emphasis on interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Communicate project status to management
