CAS is currently seeking a Software Engineer for the Content Engineering and Solutions team.  This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

  • A degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of professional software development experience
  • Experience with a full-stack environment is desired

 

Competencies/Technologies

  • Proficiency in the Java programming language, and object-oriented design.
  • Linux/Unix experience strongly desired, Cloud development experience is a plus.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as javascript, Kshell, Bash, Python, Perl is desired.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL are desired.
  • Knowledge of online scientific publishing and data is a plus.
  • The translation of technical solutions for communication with business users and managers is highly desired.
  • Strong communication, organizational savvy, interpersonal skills, and time/task management.
  • An innovation mindset – individually, and as part of a team.

 

Duties:

  • A Content Engineering and Solutions Software Engineer is a key team member supporting technology exploration and solution development for the purpose of building production content  repositories. This role encompasses developing, deploying, and operating software solutions to acquire, persist, and manage digital content in CAS content repositories, and to extract and prepare content and metadata for expert analysis and curation by CAS systems and experts.
  • This position requires full stack development ability (in multiple languages, primarily Java) including all stages of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).  The team supports and enhances existing systems, as well as developing solutions as part of new CAS projects.
  • The Engineer will join a small self-contained team that works closely with users and internal customers. The team also provides close support for several production systems, occasionally after hours.

Position Summary

Qualifications:

BA/BS in computer science or equivalent experience in Information Technology field

Strong technical background, 5+ years related to software development

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Advanced skills in C/C++ programming

Perl, Unix shell programming experience

Unix/Linux operating system experience

Strong communication, interpersonal and teaming skills

Desired skills:

IBM mainframe assembler, PL1, MVS Operating system, JCL, TSO, RDBMS, Perl, TCL, X Windows

Duties:

This software engineer will provide operational and development support for batch and online components of the STN system, and batch content loading for SciFinder Web. Candidate will work on projects for long term sustainability to move components from a mainframe environment to a Unix/Linux environment.

Tasks to be assigned:

Move processing from mainframe to Unix for key product content

Provide maintenance and enhancement support for online components in ongoing quarterly releases of the software.
