CAS is currently seeking a Building Mechanical Technician.  This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.


Facilities Operations supports multiple initiatives at CAS.  The staff in this division contributes to the success of the CAS organization by providing and maintaining a safe, functional, environmentally conscious workplace, which includes three buildings, a state of the art 24/7 data center, and 55 acres of campus.  The team executes capital improvement, cost reduction and operating efficiency projects.  The division also supports the management of internal office services inclusive of printing, mail and distribution services for the various divisional products and services.


Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of this role will be maintaining major components of the CAS buildings, building management, support systems, and data center infrastructure.  This may also include maintaining other mechanical systems, lighting, elevator services, and audio-visual systems. 



  1. Operates the CAS power plant of five (5) chillers of 20,000,000 BTUh per hour cooling capacity, seven (7) boilers of 17,000,000 BTUh heating capacity and eight (8) air distribution systems capable of moving 380,000 cubic feet of air per minute within the buildings.  Operates the building management hardware and software system to insure appropriate operation of these HVAC components and all electrical, mechanical and plumbing.  Maintains building temperature, humidity and office environmental comfort to meet ASHRAE standards.
  2. Operates the CAS Data Center mechanical and electrical support equipment consisting of 26 Liebert environmental computer room cooling units, two (2) 1,000 kVA Liebert UPS systems and two (2) 2,000 kW diesel emergency generators.  Maintenance objective is to ensure service levels are continually met to support the Data Center 99.999% uptime requirement, 24/7/365.
  3. Operator of the BAS to optimize operation of the HVAC systems. 
  4. Maintains the water treatment program for all HVAC equipment.
  5. Supports snow removal operations, as assigned.
  6. Maintains supply inventories and order materials, as needed.  Maintain shop and hand tools.
  7. “Essential” staff position critical to the day-to-day operation of the organization during weather, power or building related emergency situations.  Must be willing to work regular weekly rotating on-call schedule.



  • Facilities Management Certificate, Associate Degree in related technical field, or equivalent work experience - direct facilities experience
  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license
  • Experience with MS Office applications, work order software, and building automation systems
  • Knowledge and use of chemical water treatment analysis and equipment for boiler and chiller maintenance preferred
  • Ability to operate and use volt/ohm/amperage meters required
  • Strong understanding of blueprints, equipment specifications and drawings for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural required
  • Operational knowledge of heavy machinery and equipment including air handlers, boilers, chillers, diesel emergency generators required
    Physical Demands and Work Environment
    While performing the responsibilities of the position, the worker may exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects such as; office furniture, wall-partitioning, 55 gallon drums of liquids, and other containers of similar weight and bulk.  The worker stands upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time; moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for moderate distances or moving from one work site to another.  The duties require manual dexterity to hold, control and operate tools machinery, and/or vehicles with hands and fingers.  The worker frequently reaches with hands and arms and occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature.  The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions (weather and temperature) where exposure lasts for more than one hour.  The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, loud noises, oils and/or chemicals.
