Over the last 5 years, SAT has introduced data as a core component to support decisions organization-wide. We are now seeking to establish data governance and mature our data strategy and the design, architecture, and implementation of data products and policies. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Assistant Director for Society Data will provide leadership guidance to data managers, architects, and leads and will have broad latitude to influence data strategy and data-driven decision-making. The Assistant Director will regularly interface with senior and executive leadership, lead cross-functional teams and work closely with their direct reports, product teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to execute strategic initiatives to further the management and use of data within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Provide vision, strategy development, and oversee delivery execution for our data initiatives across the organization to drive business outcomes
- Lead the development and execution of the organization’s data strategy and the design, architecture, and implementation of data products and policies
- Maintain awareness of and establish industry best practices and emerging trends to support complex data operations and work with business and technology stakeholders on strategic planning, developing product roadmaps identifying operational needs, and establishing service-level agreements
- Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure applications are adhering to established data standards
- Lead data engineering activities, including data architecture, extract, transform and load (ETL) development, and data curation activities
- Develop and maintain inventory of the Society applications and data assets, including authoritative systems and owners
- Curate data to support reporting and analytics for key data and metrics for major operational initiatives
- Participate in budget development and monitoring of expenses and lead contract and vendor management activities
- Ensure that proper levels of managerial, technical, and analytical staffing and consultants are maintained
Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of progressive leadership experience in data management, data engineering, and business intelligence with a strong concentration in large-scale digital transformation
- Process driven and people centric
- Proven track record for driving strategic data initiatives and successfully implementing data strategies, policies, and products within a large-scale organization
- Passionate and knowledgeable about data products, platforms, and the evolving landscape.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
- Master’s or Advanced Degree in business, management, information systems, computer science, or a related field is preferred
Other Requirements:
- Strong data infrastructure and data architecture skills
- Proven track record of leading and scaling data teams
- Strong operational skills to drive efficiency and a vision for how to leverage data as a value creating asset
- Experience with SQL and Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience with Python
- Experience with data visualization platforms, such as Tableau
- Ability to engage with senior leaders to represent the organization and defend governance practices to maintain alignment with the Society's objectives and priorities
- Strong leadership competencies for hiring, managing, coaching, and developing managers and individual contributors
- Outstanding leadership success through engaging, coaching, developing, and inspiring high performance
- Develops talent and capabilities to maximize individual contribution and engagement within a team
- Strong intellectual ability paired with high emotional intelligence
- US Citizenship required for this Position
This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
