The American Chemical Society is looking for an Audience Marketing Manager. This role will serve as an audience marketing manager to support priorities and goals for DEIR and Outreach. This role will identify new potential marketing strategies and tactics and be responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns to meet goals, as well as drive awareness of ACS offerings that enhance the value of Membership.


The position is responsible for managing digital (e.g., social), email, and offline campaigns, while exploring new potential channels. They will work with subject matter experts, channel managers, and external vendors to reach the target audience with accurate and targeted messaging. They will also work with business units to establish KPIs, track and analyze performance using marketing data, report on results, and make data-driven recommendations for current and future marketing campaigns.



Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Create an engagement and acquisition strategy to reach membership growth goals for the academic audience. The right candidate will have experience across inbound strategy (organic search, events, partnerships, etc.) and outbound strategy (direct outreach, advertising, etc.)
  • Working with the product team, build systems to understand and respond to audience pain points to stay relevant and realize new opportunities for marketing and product development
  • Build content marketing strategy to attract and nurture underrepresented audience segments, identifying ways to leverage existing society content to build interest and develop relationships
  • Work cross functionally to understand and make use of available resources to reach audience acquisition goals once strategies are approved. This is a hands-on role that is responsible for distilling strategy into tactics and overseeing their rollout
  • Set up a system for measuring performance, mapping progress to goals, and adjusting tactics accordingly to improve outcomes
  • Regularly communicate analysis of audience behavior, strategy, tactics and performance to a peer and executive audience
  • Partner with product and revenue marketing counterparts to ensure strategy is aligned with product and sales priorities




Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Communication, or another related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in project management or related work
  • Experience analyzing audience data and using it to adapt strategy and tactics
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Experience with Eloqua email/marketing automation platform or similar system, Google and/or Adobe CRM and Analytics, PowerPoint/multi-media presentation development skills
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements and report on the outcome


This position will be primarily based in the D.C. office. ACS offers hybrid work arrangement of three days per week working in the office and two days per week working remotely. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
