Division and Unit Overview

The Human Resources Division is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies and programs for the ACS. Human Resources provides operational and strategic resource support to all divisions with staffing, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compensation administration, training and organization development and succession planning. The customer base is diverse, including current, former and potential employees, management business partners, American Chemical Society members, and outside vendors. The HR team directly serves over 700 Washington, DC affiliated employees and over 1,200 Columbus, Ohio affiliated employees. In addition to the Washington, DC and Columbus, Ohio locations, there are other locations in the United States as well as internationally.

 

Position Summary

The Benefits Analyst reports to the Sr Director, Total Rewards and supports the development, maintenance, and administration of the organization’s benefit programs and policies. Responsibilities may include the assessment of competitive practices, tracking and reporting, annual enrollment, retirement plan administration, or the administration of wellness programs. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of area of responsibility and provides guidance to employees, managers, HR business partners and other stakeholders regarding eligibility, plan provisions, regulatory compliance and other matters related to benefit plans and programs. Ensures organizational compliance with federal and state laws.

 

Work Design:  Performs wide range of work assignments using existing procedures under moderate level of guidance and direction from the director and senior staff. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of area of responsibility and seeks opportunities to improve efficiency. Performs analysis, interprets results and makes recommendations.

 

Position Accountabilities

  1. Handles day to day operational duties for benefits plans and programs which may include but is not limited to medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, disability, retirement programs (e.g., pension, 403(b), retiree medical).
  2. Participates in the planning and implementation of annual open enrollment.
  3. Communicates benefits to Society staff through phone calls, email exchanges and one-on-one and group meetings.
  4. Works directly with benefit plan providers, vendors, auditors and consultants to ensure service delivery standards are met and facilitates problem resolution.
  5. Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  6. Assists with maintenance of benefits and enrollment data in the HR systems, in personnel files, and through secure vendor web-based systems.
  7. Assists with assuring all employee benefit materials (print and electronic) are kept up to date and meet all legal requirements, plan provisions and company policies. Recommends actions required to ensure compliance standards and regulatory requirements are met and supports implementation of such actions.
  8. Coordinates events such as wellness fairs, blood drives, etc.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education/Experience/ Technical Knowledge

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years related experience
  • Knowledge of ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA and state specific leave laws preferred
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with great attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
  • Experience with UKG Pro is a plus

Position Summary

This position will be primarily based in our Washington, DC or Columbus, OH office, with a preference for DC. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
