The ACS Membership Division is focused on serving the needs of ACS members and maximizing the value of the benefits and member focused services that we provide across all ACS products. Within Membership, the Society Business Solutions Department supports all Society Programs and is focused on ensuring value and business alignment through data research, strategic planning and web communications. The Research & Decision Support (RDS) — a unit within the Society Business Solutions Department — supports the enterprise in better understanding ACS membership, prospective customers and the market landscape for ACS offerings.

 

Position Summary
This role is essential to maintaining a business-driven mindset among supported units, assessing KPIs and providing programmatic recommendations. This position enables RDS to continue to provide expanded support to all divisions within ACS. It supports all society data initiatives with domain expertise in the area of the ACS Education Division and its specific needs.
Work design: Works with team, independently, and under general direction from manager. Identifies and recommends solutions to a variety of routine and non-routine problems. Creative, strategic, collaborative, flexible, adaptable, and political approaches are essential in this position. Program administration will accompany the creative and strategic responsibilities.

 

Position Accountabilities
1. Serves as the data and business analytics manager for supported Society Programs’ divisions.
2. Contributes to the management of the Portfolio Evaluation process for Society Programs with a focus on ACS Education.
3. Assists with the development & tracking of KPIs as well as providing programmatic recommendations based on trend data.
4. Manages and cleans data to prepare for analysis, review, or reporting.
5. Serves as a key data/research liaison to the ACS Education Division, partnering with the RDS team to support related data management tasks and larger data projects.
6. Supports the creation and curation of databases and dashboards within the divisions to monitor and report constituent engagement and other KPIs
7. Participates in other projects and endeavors as assigned/needed.

 

Essential Job Requirements

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in chemistry or data science preferred. Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience. Candidate must be comfortable with exploring new technology and able to learn it quickly; knowledge of technology systems & data visualization tools (i.e., Tableau) and programming languages (i.e., SQL, Python); experience or transferable skills that demonstrate the ability to understand & communicate trends in chemical education; data & performance management; data analysis & database creation; comfort with/ability to learn platforms to support data management; strong interpersonal, analytical, written & oral communication & organizational skills; knowledge of technology systems & data visualization tools (i.e., Tableau) and programming languages (i.e., SQL, Python); strong customer service skills for interaction with internal stakeholders, students, governance committees, & stakeholders such as donor. Cultural/global awareness and experience is highly desirable.

 

Division

Position Summary

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
