C&EN Production Editor
Reports to: Lead Production Editor, C&EN

Overview
C&EN (Chemical & Engineering News) produces authoritative, award-winning journalism from around the world of chemistry, including research, education, industry, funding, and regulatory policy. It is published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific society dedicated to a single discipline, and is widely considered one of the major benefits of membership. C&EN's weekly magazine reaches more than 155,000 members of ACS in 150 countries, and its website receives more than 13 million page views per year.

We are looking for a Production Editor to ensure C&EN's editorial, creative, and production teams communicate efficiently; that our stories are clear, error-free, and posted promptly; and that our projects are of the highest quality across all of our channels.

What you'll do

  • Edit and coordinate production of C&EN editorial stories and projects as well as sponsored content with writers, editors, and designers.
  • Pair editing skills with familiarity with science to ensure stories are free of errors and adhere to C&EN's style guide.
  • Shepherd science-rich schematics and complex, data-filled infographics through production, advising C&EN's editorial, creative, and production teams throughout the process to produce art that's informative, inviting, and adaptable to all our platforms.
  • Ensure output of complete, error-free stories and metadata for C&EN's digital channels: web, mobile, and global edition; ensure output of complete, error-free PDFs for publication to print and e-mailed digital editions.
  • Learn search engine optimization (SEO) best practices for discoverability, and apply them while editing stories.
  • Write stories and create other content for C&EN's digital, print, social media, and other properties as desired and appropriate.

What you'll bring

  • A college degree in chemistry or related science is preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate and facilitate conversations across teams in our newsroom.
  • A strong grasp of grammar.

The following are a plus: project management experience and digital editing experience-such as working within a content management system and collaborating in shared documents.

About working at C&EN
ACS believes in the strength of diversity in all its forms, because inclusion of and respect for diverse people, experiences, and ideas lead to superior solutions to world challenges and advance chemistry as a global, multidisciplinary science. In turn, C&EN believes that to meet its mission to be the world's go-to source of news about chemistry, our reporting and our newsroom must include diverse perspectives. Therefore, we strongly encourage people of color, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and members of other historically marginalized communities in the chemical sciences to apply.

How to apply
Along with a résumé, tell us in a cover letter what you can bring to this editing position. Send all materials to m_morone@acs.org after submitting your résumé below.
