The position will be responsible for the coordination of campaigns led by the Office of Science Outreach within the Education Division. Campaigns to be coordinated include public-facing programs designed to increase public appreciation of chemistry (i.e. National Chemistry Week, Chemists Celebrate Earth Week), as well as programs to recognize the excellent volunteer and professional service of ACS volunteers (i.e. Volunteer of the Year, ChemLuminary Awards). A particular emphasis of this position will be increasing participation of international volunteers, students, minoritized communities, and those with disabilities.


Work Design: Works under general managerial direction on goals and objectives that have a significant impact on the organization.  Works with unit objectives and expert knowledge with guidance.  Develops systemic solutions for highly complex problems.  Uses analytical, interpretive, evaluative and/or constructive thinking to reach solutions.



Position Accountabilities

  • Develop, launch, coordinate, and evaluate internal and external participation in chemistry outreach campaigns.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deploy campaign-related resources and training.
  • Collaborate with Web Presence to maintain an updated web presence for all outreach campaigns
  • Develop social media content for all chemistry outreach campaigns for distribution using ACS social media channels.
  • Track budget expenditures in collaboration with Senior Portfolio Manager
  • Communicate programmatic information and outcomes to staff cross-functional teams, advisory boards, etc…
  • Provide support as staff liaison to a designated subcommittee of the Committee on Community Activities, with other governance assistance as requested


Position Summary

  • Bachelor’s in chemistry, chemistry education, or a related science. Advanced degree a plus but not required
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with superior customer service.
  • Science outreach or science education experience is a plus.
  • Cultural/global awareness and experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail.
