enterprise. The Office of Science Outreach encourages and supports public outreach efforts that
communicate the vital role of chemists and chemistry in addressing the world’s challenges by providing
outreach opportunities, training, resources, networks, and other assistance.

Position Summary
The position will be responsible for the editorial coordination of publications, resources, training, and
related activities led by the Office of Science Outreach. The position will support volunteer content
creators; edit the children’s publication Celebrating Chemistry; collaborate with a Program Manager and
Senior Portfolio Manager on development of an engagement activity library; assist in editing and
updating training resources; support governance activities; support Kids Zone events; and other duties
as assigned. Occasional domestic travel will be required from this role. A particular emphasis of this
position will be working to make all team resources inclusive of international volunteers, students,
underserved communities, and those with disabilities.

Position Accountabilities
1. Coordinate the work of volunteer content creators developing outreach resources.
2. Edit the biannual publication Celebrating Chemistry.
3. Coordinate development of and preparation of content for an activity library.
4. Edit and assist in updating training resources.
5. Edit and assist in updating other resources.
6. Assist in preparation and execution of Kids Zone and similar events.
7. Provide support as staff liaison to a designated subcommittee of the Committee on Community
Activities, with other governance assistance as requested.


Position Summary

• Bachelor’s in chemistry, chemistry education, or a related science.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with superior customer service.
• Science outreach or science education experience is a plus.
• Experience with different cultures/nations a plus.

• Strong writing and verbal communications skills.
• Organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.

Position location: ACS Headquarters in Washington, DC. We will prioritize local candidates for this role.


This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS offers hybrid work arrangement of three days per week working in the office and two days per week working remotely. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
