The Office of the CEO is responsible, along with the Executive Leadership Team, for the day-to-day operations of all units of the Society, as well as implementation of a comprehensive and coherent strategy for the Society.
Position Description:
Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the CEO, this position will be the primary writer in support of the Office of the CEO in preparing messaging about the actions and activities of the CEO to internal and external audiences. The incumbent will draft speeches, scripts, presentation materials, short newsletter articles, social media posts, governance materials, and other executive materials for the CEO and other senior leaders as needed. The incumber will also assist in reviewing material generated across the organization to ensure consistent voice and brand.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Chief of Staff, develop and aid in positioning messages that support, refine and amplify the CEO’s voice and message. This includes the development of speeches, scripts, presentation materials, talking points, newsletter items, letters, governance materials, and other executive communications. Work across the organization and externally as needed to gather information and to position messaging.
- Assist with the development and review of written and verbal communications, correspondences and messaging developed with the CEO as signatory to ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency of executive voice and adherence to AP Style.
- Develop social media posts for the CEO that support the overall external outreach strategy. Coordinate with the Social Media team within the Communications Division on editorial planning, content generation, engagement, monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
- Support the Chief of Staff and other executive leaders with internal and external communications as needed. Coordinate with Communications Division staff to monitor news coverage and to develop new opportunities disseminate the CEO’s message.
Relevant Skills & Experience:
- College degree or equivalent or formal technical training
- 5+ years of relevant experience required with support of executive leadership preferred.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including experience writing in the voice of executive leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals at all levels.
- Comfortable accepting feedback and iterating to deliver the desired product.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and to maintain high-quality work while managing multiple projects and under tight deadlines.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work productively a dynamic environment with multiply priorities.
- Experience with social media content generation and management a plus.
- Detail oriented with excellent editing and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

- Business travel ranges up to 5% depending on business needs.

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
