The American Chemical Society seeks a senior leader to join our sales and marketing unit as the Manager, Product Marketing. The product marketing team is a new, centralized initiative designed to supercharge engagement for key society products to deepen and grow their relationship with ACS.



Position Summary

Working closely with audience and revenue marketing teams, the Manager, Product Marketing will lead a team of five (5) – 3 FTEs and 2 full time contractors – and will be responsible for communicating the value of existing and new products, programs, and services. The incumbent will ultimately be assessed on product performance and engagement and driving membership value and growth. This is a working manager role that requires a candidate who can lead the strategy for a portfolio of products including developing positioning and messaging, leading content marketing strategies that explain the value of the products, overseeing integrated marketing plans and budgets, and assessing performance data for optimization of product marketing efforts.  The portfolio includes membership as a product, Events (10+ Global, Regional, & Specialty Conferences), products from the C&EN Media Group, and ACS Career resources.


Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Serve as a people manager for five (5) product marketing managers – 3 FTEs and 2 full time contractors – providing effective leadership, ensuring collaboration across the team, and promoting a consultative approach to support the team in achieving their goals
  • Serve as the membership marketing expert providing oversight and strategic guidance of all marketing campaigns
  • Effectively manage associated budgets or make appropriate budget recommendations to business partners
  • Create and collaborate across the team to develop and implement strategic marketing plans to drive awareness, membership, and engagement goals
  • Use data to track and analyze the effectiveness of campaigns. Share data-driven insights and make adjustments and/or recommendations for current and future planning
  • Communicate goals, initiatives, and results of product marketing campaigns internally and cross divisionally, as well as others across the unit’s audience and revenue marketing teams to successfully drive awareness and engagement with key products.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communication, or another related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 7-10 years experience in marketing or related work
  • Demonstrated track record of leading high performing teams
  • Experience with project management tools (Asana); experience with Eloqua email/marketing automation platform or similar system, Google and/or Adobe CRM and Analytics, PowerPoint/multi-media presentation development skills
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements and report on outcomes
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of the ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a flexible and fast-paced environment to effectively meet deadlines
  • Experience developing and managing an annual marketing budget




This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
