Marketing Events Coordinator

The American Chemical Society is looking for an Events Coordinator who is exceptionally skilled, organized, efficient, flexible, and driven. This role will be responsible for supporting the in person and virtual events strategy across the sales and marketing unit. The position will assist with the management of the annual global exhibit and events calendar for the society’s marketing team, and support the execution of all key exhibits and events. The position coordinates with other Society staff, business units, and teams for successful in person marketing strategies and event activations.  The ideal candidate will need to be able to effectively build brand/listing/team awareness and exposure, set and achieve goals, analyze results, identify new opportunities, take direction when it is given, and take initiative when it is needed.


Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Coordinate all aspects of logistics and execution of live/virtual events, including event registration and marketing assets for events and trade shows. Also includes booking booth and meeting space, F&B, event shipping, set up, ACS mole costume and actor management, and coordinating staffing.
  • Assist in planning and coordination for internal staff trainings, retreats, and workshops.
  • Support for the ACS Store’s onsite operations at events, coordinating merchandise, inventory, staffing, and on-site administration.
  • Fulfillment of event-related sponsorship commitments including creating and delivering event marketing assets and promotional materials, coordinating cross-divisional participation
  • Maintain event schedules, project checklists, internal calendars. Collect event feedback and gather information for post-event analysis and reporting.
  • Track expenses and assist in complete financial reconciliation.



Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Communication, or another related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years of experience
  • Ability to work independently with limited instruction as well as within the team in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, including weekends
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of the ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a flexible and fast-paced environment to effectively meet deadlines
  • Must demonstrate a deep understanding of conceptual and written communication skills with a deep understanding of the English language (spelling, grammar, and vocabulary)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical information between internal product teams
  • Must demonstrate strategic and creative thinking when solving problems
  • Must demonstrate proficient skills in Google Suite and Microsoft Office with an advanced understanding of Excel and Google Sheets
  • Must demonstrate presentation skills


This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
