The Society & Media Relations group is looking for a team player to support a range of communications efforts, particularly in web publishing and on social media. The team seeks a candidate who is enthusiastic about science, especially chemistry, and about news and who enjoys working in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, be comfortable working on a team, and be able to juggle multiple tasks while meeting strict deadlines.

 

Position Responsibilities:

- Manage web content for Society & Media Communications as the team’s primary user of and resource for the content management system. Upload and review materials in the content management system in a dynamic communications environment. Review content submitted by other staff for accuracy, consistency and functionality. Keep up with the organization’s web trends and advise the team accordingly. Support the team with training as needed.

- Guide the web presence for the Society & Media Communications team, working with other units to support the organization’s vision and goals and ensure high-quality products. Serve as liaison with between the team and the web strategy unit. Evaluate webpages and navigation and work to implement improvements. Report on analytics and apply those data to help define and support updates and upgrades.

- Support social media on a range of platforms by posting supplied materials and working with team members to deliver high-impact products. Report on analytics and apply those data to guide social media strategy. Provide support to other staff as needed.

- Support posting of ACS content to news distribution services and other Communications Division activities as needed.

 

Position qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is required. Desirable areas of study include communications, journalism, marketing, chemistry, computer science or a related field. A chemistry degree is helpful.  Experience working in web publishing and social media is required. Experience in communications, the news business or public relations is strongly desired. Three to five years of professional experience is required for the mid-level position; a minimum of five years is required for the advanced level. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, be comfortable working on a team, and be able to juggle multiple tasks under deadline pressure. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Expertise with content management systems is strongly preferred; knowledge of Adobe Experience Manager is particularly helpful. Enthusiasm for science communication and learning new skills are major pluses.
