The mission of the Author and Reviewer Product team is to create and manage tools that support our global community of researchers through their publication journey and beyond. The Product Manager, Author and Reviewer Products is primarily responsible for driving the strategy and maintaining the health of a suite of products that serve the ACS author and reviewer communities. This includes ACS Authoring Services as well as two educational products, ACS Author Lab and ACS Reviewer Lab. The Product Manager will also be included in the development of new author products and services, including ongoing development of the ACS Publishing Center.


The qualified candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication with both technical and nontechnical audiences. Candidates should demonstrate strong business acumen, creative problem solving, attention to detail, leadership, and analytical skills. A background in STM publishing, along with a working understanding of the peer-review process are a plus but not required.


Key Job Functions

  • Executes and manages the strategy, planning, development, and optimization for assigned products
  • Provides day-to-day management of vendor relationships
  • Prioritizes each product’s roadmaps and backlog
  • Collaborate with IT, marketing, digital transformation and editorial development on development, testing, and release of key product features
  • Identifies and reports on key milestones and KPI’s
  • Builds relationships and a shared vision for each project’s outcome
  • Analyzes market and monitor competitive landscape and competitor statistics
  • Gathers and utilizes user feedback as appropriate
  • Develop forecast and annual targets


Education, Experience and Technical Requirements 

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience in areas of related discipline, such as product management, business, engineering or similar. Minimum of 5 or more years of relevant experience 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills 
  • Experience working with Web-based applications or e-learning system preferred
  • Experience in scholarly publishing preferred

Division and Unit Summary

The American Chemical Society is the world’s largest scientific membership association and one of the top five scholarly publishers in the world. The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society provides to its members and the worldwide scientific community a comprehensive collection of high-quality information products and services for the practice and advancement of the chemical sciences. The Division publishes 70+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals that cover the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as peer reviewed books and reference works (ACS Reagents, ACS Guide to Scholarly Communications). 


Within the ACS Publications Division, the Global Editorial Operations team performs three main functions: 

  • Editorial Services, charged with overseeing the editorial operations for our 700+ offices, developing and implementing policies and strategies to ensure that high quality peer review continues to be a cornerstone of ACS Publications, at scale;
  • Product Development, charged with overseeing author and reviewer products, including ChemRxiv, ACS’s Author and Reviewer Labs, the ACS Publishing Center, revenue generating Supplementary Covers, and our suite of for-fee authoring services; 
  • Publishing Integrity & Partner Services, charged with overseeing publishing ethics, data validation, and DEIR initiatives through the Publishing Integrity Office, as well as developing products and services to support editorial stakeholders, including all editors within the ACS journals portfolio and partner journals. 



This position has been approved for remote distance teleworking, ideally to be based in the North East region or East Coast. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable, for those candidate who would be available to work from an office.
