Within the Membership Division, the Office of Component Support provides opportunities, resources, training, and networks to empower volunteer leaders to serve diverse member communities. Position Summary
The ACS Office of Component Services provides programmatic and administrative support for volunteer leaders of ACS component groups. This position directly supports our component groups by enhancing existing programs to reach broader audiences and, exploring and executing on new programming opportunities to engage and connect members locally, globally and virtually. This position will enable the design, development, and delivery of programming opportunities by coordinating programming and fostering communication and engagement with internal staff colleagues and volunteer leaders.
Work design: Works with team, independently, and under general direction from manager. This position will collaborate with staff and volunteers to develop and enhance opportunities to extend the reach or ACS programs to members in their communities. This position will serve as a dedicated resource to centralize key administrative functions in support of ACS component groups. This position will align with other staff and volunteer to foster a spirit of collaboration and teamwork.
Position Accountabilities
- Support effective regional meeting programming by serving as a liaison between region boards, regional meeting hosts and ACS business units. Create opportunities and support component group leader collaboration to develop regional, virtual and hybrid programs to engage our diverse member communities.
- Design, develop and maintain program manuals, toolkits and other resource materials to support component group leaders, programs and operations.
- Coordinate with Marketing and Membership colleagues to promote program offerings and opportunities for member engagement at the grassroots level.
- Support the local section leader’s monthly webinar series by identifying content and speakers to highlight programs, products and services offered to and by local sections.
- Coordinate with staff across the Society via bi-monthly roundtables, cross-functional working groups, Slack/Teams channels to encourage information sharing, the streamline of communications and, to explore opportunities for joint collaborations and the execution of programming developed for component groups and their members (e.g. Program in a Box).
- Conducts outreach to component groups by planning virtual or in-person local section visits (2-4 per year).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge
Desired skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical or related science is preferred. Eight+ years of related experience Strong interpersonal, analytical, written and oral communication and organizational skills are required. Superior customer service skills, experience with non-profit organizations and working with volunteers is preferable. Occasional travel (including weekends) will be required.

Position Summary
This position will be based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
