Division and Unit Overview

The mission of the ACS Education Division is to serve learners and educators by building communities and providing effective chemistry education products, services, and information. The Division provides programs and services for teachers and students from kindergarten through graduate school.

 

The Student Experiences office oversees ACS Scholars, Project SEED, and LEADS programming, ensuring deliverables, providing professional development and mentorship opportunities and cross-collaborating with other ACS units and external partners.

 

ACS Scholars is a renewable scholarship program for African American, Hispanic, and Indigenous undergraduate students studying and pursuing STEM- related careers. Project SEED is a high school summer research fellowship program designed for students from low-income households. LEADS is a 3-day event focused on preparing high-potential early career professionals and students for successful and impactful careers in the chemical enterprise. This event brings together highly esteemed chemists, scientists, professionals, and Nobel Laureates for networking, self-reflection, career exploration, mentoring, and technical discussions.

 

 

Position Summary

The Program Manager for Student Experience is a senior professional level position which focuses on supporting, creating, and facilitating educational and career and professional development projects and resources to support students, mentors, and stakeholders of Student Experiences Office. The incumbent reports to the portfolio manager, works alongside members of the Student Experiences team, and collaborates with stakeholders of the STEM community.

 

 

Position Accountabilities

  1. Creates, modifies, and facilitates professional development and educational resources for SEED, Scholars and LEADS, collaborating with internal partners as appropriate.  Contributes to the development of unique and innovative professional development that can be leveraged across the Education Division.
  2. Coordinates and contributes to pre-and post-evaluation and surveying of programming within the office, partnering with internal entities such as Research and Decision Support as needed.
  3. Manages the collaborative development and enhancements of policy and guidelines regarding coordinators, mentors, and reviewers that are part of the office programs and contributes to development of related course material on the ACS Learning Management System.
  4. Advises on the strategic alignment of programs, learning outcomes of projects, and timelines and deliverables for office programs.
  5. Organizes customer-facing focus groups, coordinates regular status meetings with team members on cross-functional alignment with professional development resources offered to SEED and Scholars.
  6. Collaborates with internal partners (e.g., Production, ACS Creative, ACS Marketing, ACS Social Media, etc.) to advance Project SEED mission and goals.

 

Education/Experience/Technical Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or STEM related discipline; Advanced degree preferred. 7+ years of related experience in professional and career development or educational research. Excellent organizational, verbal, written, data driven, and analytical skills desired. Ability to think strategically, be creative and demonstrate diligence, timeliness, responsiveness, and commitment are a must. Experience with facilitating career workshops, leading strategic planning, data management, Qualtrics, and data analysis are a plus. Technical knowledge required: Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat.

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C.  office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
