Division Overview

The mission of the ACS Education Division is to serve learners and educators by building communities and supporting innovative, relevant, and effective chemistry education and professional development. Position Summary

This position serves as the program manager within the Career and Professional Education group. The position contributes to the development and deployment of content strategy and programming within Career and Professional Education (including course/content selection, evaluation, and updates) with a special focus on Professional Education. The position works closley with internal and external customers to prepare/customize Career and Professional Education content for delivery to new/expanded audiences (industry, global, student, etc..) with an emphasis on e-learning and virtual delivery. The position contributes to Division- and Society-wide initiatives that advance ACS learning opportunities and the value of these opportunities for current and prospective members.  The incumbent reports directly to the Assistant Director, Career and Professional Education.

 

Work design:  Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to perform assignments and create solutions. Demonstrates increased comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a specialized field. Consults with management to influence decisions. Decisions involve translating the Division’s goals and objectives into unit objectives, defined work assignments and projects; conducting and implementing actions; and short-term planning. Serves as a liaison on cross-functional teams.


Position Accountabilities

  1. Develops and deploys content strategy and programming within the Career and Professional Education (CPE) group (including course/content selection and updates), with a special focus on Professional Education. 
  2. Partners with internal and external entities to prepare/customize ACS CPE content, particularly in the Professional Education part of the portfolio, for virtual delivery with an emphasis on new/expanded audiences (global, student, etc…).
  3. Provides guidance and support for evaluation activities within the CPE group, interpreting and leveraging results to inform program improvement and modifications.
  4. Provides guidance and support for the functions and training of CPE facilitators.
  5. Supports the Assistant Director, Career and Professional Education with other activities of the unit, Division, and Society as needed. This includes activities that advance ACS learning opportunities and the value of these opportunities for current and prospective members and customers. 
  6. Represents the Society at ACS Spring/Fall, regional, and local section meetings, and at meetings external to ACS.

 

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related discipline; may have an advanced degree or equivalent experience in training and development; 8+ years of related experience. Experience developing, designing, deploying, and evaluating training and professional development for scientists and/or engineers in various e-learning environments. Experience in training facilitators helpful. Excellent verbal and written skills. Excellent organizational and collaboration skills. The position requires approximately 16 travel days/year.

Position Summary

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
