The American Chemical Society is looking for a Program Manager.  The incumbent in this position is responsible for organizing and facilitating virtual and on-site workshops for K–12 teachers, including the AACT webinar series; recruiting presenters and communicating regularly with members; staying up-to-date on best practices in chemistry education; analyzing survey data; maintaining professional development web content; and supporting Chemistry Teacher Day at the ACS national meeting. The position will also support the production of teaching resources for AACT by writing resources for teachers of advanced chemistry, developing collections of teaching content around a given topic, and editing materials contributed by teachers for safety and accuracy.


Position Accountabilities 

  • Lead the AACT webinar series by recruiting presenters, refining presenter content, hosting/scheduling webinars, and posting/maintaining webinar content on the AACT website, and providing professional development guidance for presenters.
  • Organize and facilitate on-site professional development workshops at national chemistry education conferences (BCCE, ChemEd, etc.), ACS meetings, events with corporate sponsors, and other events as needed.
  • Support the joint task force for Chemistry Teacher Day at ACS national meetings by coordinating logistics, analyzing participant data, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and marketing the event to teachers.
  • Work with the Education Resource Specialist to develop classroom resources (lesson plans, labs, demos, etc.) for teachers of advanced chemistry (AP/IB), developing collections of content, providing feedback to teachers developing content, and editing materials as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for K-12 facing programs, products, and services across the Education division. 


Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemical sciences and a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience. Strong writing and verbal communications skills for interacting with stakeholders and coordinating content production. Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail are highly desirable. Outstanding interpersonal skills with superior customer service. Background in chemistry education or teaching strongly preferred. Experience teaching advanced chemistry (AP or IB) is a plus.
