Position Summary


The incumbent reports to the Assistant Director, Career and Professional Education is responsible for strategic and operational management of the ACS Institute. This includes providing guidance for content strategy, implementing and managing ACS Institute processes, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to promote, assess, and advance ACS Institute goals and objectives.


Work Design: Works under general managerial direction on goals and objectives that have a significant impact on the organization.  Works with unit objectives and expert knowledge with guidance.  Develops systemic solutions for highly complex problems.  Uses analytical, interpretive, evaluative and/or constructive thinking to reach solutions.


Position Accountabilities


  1. Provides strategic and operational oversight for the ACS Institute. Identifies opportunities for growth and enhancement and leads implementation activities.
  2. Manages the inventory of ACS Institute content; maintains up-to-date records on ACS Institute content and develops and refines processes for inventory management.
  3. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop and deploy ACS Institute content strategy, including providing oversight for onboarding new learning assets.
  4. Collaborates with internal units (i.e. Membership, Marketing, Publications, and Web Strategy) to promote the ACS Institute.
  5. Monitors and reports ACS Institute analytics.
  6. Leads and/or contributes to intiatives that advance ACS Institute operations and user experience (i.e. technology enhancements, etc…).
  7. Assists with complementary initiatives and projects that advance the career and professional growth of ACS members and stakeholders.
    Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge
  • College degree or equivalent experience; may have an advanced degree or equivalent experience, degree in the chemical sciences preferred;
  • 7 years of related experience. Experience in training and development, continuing education preferred – optimally in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM);
  • Demonstrated program and project management experience required;
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills for interacting with stakeholders; 
  • Strategic and creative thinking including experience with new program development;
  • Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail are highly desirable;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with focus on collaboration and consensus building between teams
