Division and Unit Overview
The mission of the ACS Education Division is to provide contemporary chemistry education and professional development programs and resources to support excellence in teaching and learning and to build informed communities. The strategic objectives of the ACS Education Division reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise. The Office of Science Outreach encourages and supports public outreach efforts that communicate the vital role of chemists and chemistry in addressing the world’s challenges by providing outreach opportunities, training, resources, networks, and other assistance.

 


Position Summary
The position will be responsible for supporting the Office of Science Outreach. Areas of focus will be general office support as well as support for the following:  administration of the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO); development of outreach resources; ACS participation at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF); and promotion of these and other outreach programs. This position will work closely with all staff leading each program, reporting to the office Senior Portfolio Manager.

 

Domestic travel 10%; approximately two (2) trips per year expected for this position. Occasional weekend work may also be required.
 

Position Accountabilities 

  1. Support administration of all the programs of the Office of Science Outreach by processing payments; acquiring and shipping supplies; participating in onsite activities; and other logistical tasks. 
  2. Administer the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad program (USNCO) by supporting local volunteers. Tasks include but are not limited to answering questions; coordinating meeting logistics; ordering supplies; tracking task force performance.
  3. Assist in the development of facilitated outreach activities.
  4. Coordinate tasks associated with ACS participation in the annual Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
  5. Support the promotion of the programs of the Office of Science Outreach through collaborations with relevant internal divisions.
  6. Assist with representation of the Division through booths at the ACS Spring and ACS Fall meetings.

 

 

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 0-3 years of experience. 
  • Science background, preferably in chemistry or a related field.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with superior customer service.
  • Strong writing and verbal communications skills. 
  • Organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail. 

 

 


Position location: ACS Headquarters in Washington, DC.   

Division

Position Summary

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
