Division and Unit Overview
The mission of the ACS Education Division is to serve learners and educators by building communities and providing effective chemistry education products, services, and information. The Division provides programs and services for teachers and students from kindergarten through graduate school.
Project SEED is a high school summer research fellowship program designed for students from low-income households. Since 1968, over 11,000 students have paired with scientist mentors across the United States and Puerto Rico, learning about the scientific method, presenting their research, and receiving a stipend. ACS Scholars is a renewable scholarship program for African American, Hispanic, and Indigenous undergraduate students studying and pursuing STEM- related careers. Since 1995, over 3,200 students have received scholarship funding.
The Student Experiences office oversees Project SEED and Scholars programming, ensuring that both programs achieve annual cycle deliverables, provide professional development and mentorship opportunities for high school through undergraduate students and cross-collaborating with other ACS units and external partners. The program specialist of the Student Experience office reports to the portfolio manager of the Student Experiences office, works alongside members of the Student Experiences team and collaborates with various stakeholders of the STEM community.
- Coordinates communication regarding SEED and Scholars programming and deadlines to students and mentors regarding applications requirements, renewals, and logistical event deadlines via email and social media, and community platforms.
- Coordinates the disbursements and tracking of scholarships and fellowship stipends for Scholars and SEED. Communicates with Accounts Payable to track payments and receivables. Creates contracts and general payment vouchers and supports the submission of contracts.
- Coordinates responses to day-to-day customer service requests, technical application platform questions from students, mentors, faculty, and volunteers and supports development of course material on the ACS Learning Management System.
- Supports the development of comprehensive project timelines and deliverable schedules for the SEED and Scholars marketing and promotion.
- Supports the organization of customer-facing focus groups, coordinates regular status meetings with team members on cross-functional alignment with professional development resources offered to SEED and Scholars.
- Tracks alumni data and provides support to the ACS Office of Philanthropy. Contributes to preparing annual reports and analysis.
- Supports and collaborates with relevant stakeholders of Scholars and SEED (e.g., production, ACS creative, ACS marketing, ACS social media, etc.) to ensure programs are delivered on time and on budget.
Education/Experience/Technical Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree and training and experience in specialty area; 2-3 years of related experience. Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and analytical skills desired. Diligence, timeliness, responsiveness, and attention-to-detail are a must. Experience with financial processes, award disbursement, and data analysis a plus. Chemistry or STEM degree preferred. Technical knowledge required: Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Dreamweaver.

Position Summary
This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
