ACS Education assists students and postdoctoral scholars in the chemical sciences with their educational and professional development by introducing them to ACS programs and services.

 

Position Summary

 

ACS Education is seeking an individual who can demonstrate initiative and reliability, provide superior team and project management skills, and explore and execute new ideas that will benefit the office’s effectiveness while juggling competing priorities.

 

The program specialist will assist with the development, coordination, and support of operations associated with ACS programming and resources for career exploration and students support. This includes management and expansion of an integrated career exploration platform, management and expansion of an online platform that provides access to professional experiences for students (undergraduates at two- and four- year institutions and graduate students) and postdoctoral scholars, and national and regional meeting activities. Work involves complex problem-solving, complex assignments, in-depth analysis, and conceptual thinking. 

 

Position Accountabilities

 

  1. Manages integration, expansion, and updates of the ACS Careers in the Chemical Sciences platform and contributes to other career exploration projects. 
  2. Manages integration, expansion and updates of the ACS GET experience platform to provide professional experiences to undergraduate students at 2- and 4- year institutions, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. 
  3. Provides oversight for the development of processes and implementation of recognition and engagement activities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
  4. Collaborates with Education colleagues to develop and implement strategies that support the continua of student engagement with ACS.
  5. Assists with the planning and coordination of specific events for undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at national and regional meetings, organizes workshops and events, and coordinates volunteers.
  6. Completes and assists with special projects as assigned.

 

Required Experience

 

Graduate degree in a chemical or related science is preferred. Experience with the development and management of online tools is required. Strong interpersonal, analytical, written, and oral communication and organizational skills are required. Superior customer service skills and experience in project management is preferred; 4+ years of experience. Occasional travel (including weekends) will be required (approximately 4-6 trips per year).
