The Program Specialist position in the Office of Awards Programs will be organized, efficient, flexible, and driven. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the in person and virtual Award events. This role will assist with the management of the ACS National Awards Program, ACS Heroes of Chemistry Event, the Brazilian Women in Chemistry Award and ACS Green Chemistry Institute Awards. Additionally, supports the execution of all award recognition events. The position coordinates with other Society staff, business units, and teams for successful in person award events and promotions. The ideal candidate will be able to take direction when it is given and take initiative when it is needed.

 

 

Position Accountabilities

 

  1. Assist with event planning and logistics for Award Programs for the National Awards Program, ACS Fellows Program, and the ACS Heroes of Chemistry Program.
  2. Assist with the National Awards Program review process.
  3. Support the ACS Office of Awards & Programs onsite operations at events and coordinating on-site administration.
  4. Assist with the nomination and selection process for the Brazilian Women in Chemistry Award.
  5. Assist with the ACS Green Chemistry Institute Awards.
  6. Serve as a member of the Office of Awards & Programs team and assist with other society-wide projects as needed.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Requires BA/BS degree or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of experience
  • Must demonstrate event planning skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited instruction as well as within the team in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, including weekends
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of the ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a flexible and fast-paced environment to effectively meet deadlines
  • Must demonstrate a deep understanding of conceptual and written communication skills with a deep understanding of the English language (spelling, grammar, and vocabulary)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical information between internal product teams
  • Must demonstrate strategic and creative thinking when solving problems
  • Must demonstrate proficient skills in Google Suite and Microsoft Office with an advanced understanding of Excel and Google Sheets

Division

Position Summary

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
