Division and Unit Overview

The mission of the ACS Education Division is to serve learners and educators by building communities and providing effective chemistry education products, services and information. The Division provides programs and services for teachers and students from kindergarten through graduate school and professional development opportunities for chemistry professionals at all stages of their careers.

 

Position Summary

This position will provide editorial and administrative support for print and online publications, content, products, and processes. This position will provide editorial assistance that supports accuracy, clarity, and engagement of print and online publications, content, and products. This position will also provide support for the visual program by conducting photo/image research and coordinating photo/image procurement. The position will also provide assistance with digital publishing activities, marketing/outreach efforts, distribution and database management activities associated Education Division publications, products, and content.

 

Work Design

Nature of work is moderate in scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Typically responsible for less complex assignments. Provides support to larger projects. Builds productive internal/external working relationships. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

 

Position Accountabilities

  1. Provides editorial assistance for Education Division publications including reviewing and editing articles and content for publication in print and online.
  2. Conducts photo/image research and procurement for publications and publications-related websites; this includes coordinating permissions, releases, agreements, contracts, and payment.
  3. Assists with digital publishing activities; this includes preparing and posting files and making modifications and updates to web properties.
  4. Assist with marketing efforts; this includes monitoring/handling social media handles for products, managing newsletters and newsletter submissions; and assisting with surveys and market research.
  5. Assists with printing, mailing, and distribution of Education Division publications.
  6. Assists with tracking, cataloging, and maintaining databases of articles, photos, instructional content, and other resources.
  7. Provides customer service support related to the Education Division publications; this includes answering emails and following up on customer queries.
     
     
    Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge
  • College degree in journalism, communication,  chemistry, or a chemistry-related field (i.e. physical science), equivalent experience, or formal training.
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience; publications experience (digital and print formats) preferred 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Organizational, problem-solving, analytical skills and attention to detail are necessary. Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills. Advanced computer skills, experience using online technologies, and desktop publishing with the aptitude to easily learn and apply computer-based tools are a necessity. Good writing/editing skills are a necessity. Creative problem-solving skills and good judgment to support the ability to work with a high level of independence in executing role requirements.
