We seek a motivated Newsletter Editor to help shape the voice and look of ACS materials and create a relationship with email readers.

 

Position Summary

Responsibilities include coordinating content communicated in the current library of ACS newsletters. This person will gather, write, and edit content and work with staff across the organization to develop effective messaging. The newsletter editor will ensure consistent, brand-compliant, grammatically correct materials for ACS communications.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Help define the current state of ACS newsletters and establish future strategy and tactics.
  • Implement standard processes and guidelines around newsletter content creation, distribution, and performance evaluation.
  • Build audience around individual newsletters and work with the marketing team to increase readership.
  • Evaluate metrics and current email practices to help define and contribute to engagement projects designed to deepen ACS’s relationship with readers.
  • Work with staff to identify communication needs and develop effective messaging.
  • Create communication plans to support project goals.
  • Document and disseminate best practices for email newsletters, and stay informed about industry trends.
  • Work across the organization to gather, update, and clearly present key information.
  • Promote the exchange of information across all ACS locations.
  • Support effective communications by fact-checking and copyediting materials.
  • Ensure that content is ACS-brand compliant, grammatically correct, and clearly presented.
  • Contribute to other written materials, including speeches, press releases, briefing documents, and special projects.  

 

Required Skills & Education

  • College degree in communications or a related field is required. Degree or concentration in chemistry or related scientific field is helpful.
  • For a senior-level professional, at least 7 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Work experience at a scientific or nonprofit member organization is helpful. Advanced degree in relevant field can substitute for experience.
  • Ability to write and edit well on deadline and thorough knowledge of grammar are required.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, or similar field is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with email marketing best practices, tactics, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with web publishing, basic graphic design and photo editing, and digital storytelling are a plus.
  • Skill in copyediting in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus.

 

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
