The Technical Product Manager - Delivery Solutions, Content & Operations is responsible for leading platform and technical development projects on https://pubs.acs.org, the content delivery platform for ACS Publications, which hosts 70+ scholarly journals, 1+ million journal articles, books, news and other content for the scholarly chemistry community.

 

This role requires a high level of coordination with key contacts and departments throughout the Publications division and across the society. The Technical Product Manager must be able to identify opportunities, organize a project to realize them and establish an ongoing support plan.  They will be able to communicate clearly to stakeholders with varying levels of technical, business and domain knowledge.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of technical knowledge and will be a leader within the departments that support product development.  The successful candidate will have experience partnering throughout an organization, including Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Content Production and Executive Leadership.  Occasionally, the Technical Product Manager will collaborate with other Divisions within ACS, including colleagues from Chemical & Engineering News, ACS Membership and CAS.

 

 

Position Accountabilities

  • Leads product development of technical products with interdisciplinary teams of specialists.
  • Partners with Product Owners to guide technical decisions during new product development.
  • Identifies & tests product assumptions.
  • Leads development and evaluation of prototypes.
  • Works with UX & Design specialists to build beautiful and functional user experiences.
  • Assesses outcomes and reports status to executive leaders.
  • Develops plans to transition from product development to business-as-usual.
  • Monitors trends in technology & scholarly publishing to recommend product and platform improvements.
  • Maintains a roadmap of improvements.
  • Solves problems with minimal escalation.
  • Partners with Platform Operations to improve workflows and address escalated user problems.
  • Maintains a familiarity with the current state of ACS’ business architecture including capabilities, organizational structure, and high-level supporting technology.
  • Maintains contact with teams across ACS Publications to support their timely operations.

 

Education/Experience/Technological Knowledge

  • BA or BS, with emphasis in information systems, software engineering, library & information science or usability.
  • 8+ years of experience in technical product development.
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical product management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of standards, programing languages and formats including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML, JSON and WCAG.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in user interface design.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture and content management principles.
  • Ability to translate business goals into functional requirements for technical teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in library or publishing environment preferred.
