Position Summary
The Video Producer will produce, shoot, edit, design, and animate videos communicating chemistry to various audiences through multiple distribution routes. Expertise with YouTube, including YouTube Shorts, is essential.
This role requires experience with all aspects of video production and a proven ability to effectively bring complex projects to completion with minimum oversight. A passion for science and storytelling, ability to meet deadlines, proactive mind-set, ability to work effectively in teams, a high level of attention to detail, and experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment are a must. The incumbent must be able and willing to travel at least twice per year.
Work Design
Write, record, and edit videos for public-facing digital platforms including YouTube and other social media platforms. Translate scientific information into engaging, visually appealing, easy-to-understand content, working closely with colleagues and subject matter experts to ensure quality and accuracy.
Serve as producer, camera operator, and editor of internal, corporate, and industrial videos for ACS, as well as in studio and on-location video shoots, including ACS National Meetings.
Understand and apply algorithm strategies used by YouTube, and particularly YouTube Shorts, to create digital content that helps us grow our audiences. Stay informed about, document and share best practices.
Understand, inform, and adhere to organization and strategic communications guidelines to ensure messaging is consistent with organizational mission and tone of voice.
Position Accountabilities
- Write, record, edit, and create graphics for videos about chemistry for a general audience. Content should engage, educate, and entertain audiences.
- Produce short videos and other visual content for YouTube Shorts and social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
- Produce and direct live action shoots on set and in field locations.
- Adhere to best practices for publishing video on YouTube and social media. Review analytics data to determine audience engagement and opportunities for audience growth.
- Maintain a high level of scientific accuracy, collaborating with colleagues and subject matter experts.
- Write, record, edit, and create graphics for videos about the American Chemical Society and its programs, products, and services.
- Understand and promote the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the organization.
Experience/ Education/ Technological Knowledge
At least 3 years of experience as a video producer is required.
- Expertise in producing for YouTube Shorts is preferred.
- Experience monitoring analytics data to inform production strategy is a plus.
- Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop is expected.
- College degree or equivalent work experience in chemistry or related science is required.
- Experience communicating science through video is strongly preferred.
The successful staff member will be able to communicate technical subjects through engaging videos that are readily understandable by a variety of different audiences. The ability to film solo as well as part of a team is required. The position requires collaboration with internal stakeholders to understand and best address organizational needs. The ability to participate in a cross-functional environment with various edit touchpoints is required.
Location
This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
